Update : 06 Oct 2022, 12:13

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven people including four students who went missing from their homes in Cumilla and elsewhere with suspected charges of militant involvement.

The suspects were arrested by conducting raids in various areas around Dhaka till Wednesday night.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin confirmed the matter on Thursday.

"Several people left their homes from other parts of the country including Cumilla due to militant involvement. In these incidents, RAB increased surveillance and identified their location. A total of 7 people have been arrested from the area around Dhaka by raiding till Wednesday night," he said.

Seven college students from Cumilla and Dhaka left their homes on Aug 23. When they did not return, their families sought the help of police.

The RAB and the police's Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) joined the efforts to track them down.

"The CTTC is working diligently to get to the bottom of the issue. We can't say if they're members of JMB, Neo-JMB, Ansarullah or Al-Qaeda without interrogating them,"  said Md Asaduzzaman, the chief of CTTC.
