Ready for taking leave: PM

Update : 06 Oct 2022, 19:40

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said if any single councilor of Awami League says that he or she does not want me to continue as president of the party, I will resign from the post. I want new leadership to come and lead Awami League (AL).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the remarks while talking to the journalists at a press conference about her just-concluded official visit to the United Kingdom and the United States in the capital on Thursday (October 6).

The Prime Minister and also the president of ruling Awami League said, "Normally councilors elect leadership. Their decision is final in this regard. However, my main objective to make the country as a developing one has been fulfilled."

She said, "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought Independence to this country. After the Liberation War, Bangabandhu's leadership helped the country to go ahead with the socio-economic development. After his assassination, the power was captured by the evil forces. There was no practice of democracy. There was martial law, military ruler, curfew democracy and so on in the country."

"After a lot of ups and downs, we restored the democracy in the country. From 2008 to 2022, the practice of democracy is remaining at a stretch in the history of Bangladesh. Overcoming many hurdles, Bangladesh has been promoted to the developing country. Now I am ready to take a farewell," she added.
