2-yr-old elephant dies in Cox's Bazar

A two-year-old elephant was found dead in Modhushia Bagan area under Hazirghona union of Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar on Sunday (October 9).

Locals said that a herd of wild elephants throng Modhushia Bagan area of the upazila on Friday night. The dead elephant might be one of them.

Assistant Conservator of Forests of Phulchhari Range, Dwipan Das, said that an autopsy was done to know the reason behind the death of the elephant.

He also said, "After hearing the news, I along with a veterinary surgeon went to the spot at 1:00pm on Sunday. Later, the baby elephant was buried after an autopsy."

However, there was no injury mark on the body of the elephant. It could have died due to illness.

Veterinary surgeon Muntakim Billah Masum said, "The elephant might have been killed due to liver infection around two days ago. The weight of the elephant is around one ton and it was six feet long."
