The cabinet on Monday has given conditional approval to the draft of the 'National Identity Card Registration Act, 2022', with the provision of issuing the NID after birth.
The draft was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister's office (PMO) in the capital city on Monday.
Cabinet Secretary Khondokar Anwarul Islam confirmed the matter to the media at a press briefing after the cabinet meeting. All the services related to NID are now being taken under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It was under the supervision of the ministry of home affairs.
There were 32 sections in the previous act which have been reduced to 15 in the new one, the secretary added.
