At least five people were killed due to a lightning strike in a brickfield in BTC intersection area under Pirganj upazila of Rangpur on Tuesday (October 11) afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Jalil, 65, son of Abdul Jabbar, Nazmul, 22, son of Badsha Mia, Siam Mia, 20, son of Sirul Mia, Shahadat Mia, 22, son of Alamin and Rashedul Islam, 28, son of Aynal Mia, residents of Sadullyapur upazila of Gaibandha.
Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Biroda Rani Roy said, "Abdul Jalil was cutting grass at the brickfield and others were loading bricks at a trolley while the lightning struck them in the area, leaving them dead on the spot.
