Polls monitoring through CCTV is a new experience: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said it is a new experience to monitor the election situation through CCTV cameras. It will be helpful to hold a fair election in future.

He said, "From the very beginning, we have been telling that we want hold a fair election. Voters now can cast their votes fairly."

CEC Kazi Habibul Awal came up with the assertion while talking to the journalists after Zila Parishad Election at Election Commission (EC) building at Agargaon in the capital city on Monday.

He said, "We have been monitoring the election situation from the beginning. The election was held very peacefully. No incidence of anarchy or violence was reported to us. We are happy with the overall reports from the centers."

Kazi Habibul Awal also said, "We found serious anomalies through CCTV cameras in the by-polls in Gaibandha. So we had to halt the election. I think, the incidence of Gaibandha conveyed a positive message to this election."

Elections in 57 out of 64 Zila Parishads across the country began at 9:00am and the voting continued till 2:00pm on Monday (October 17). A total of 1 thousand 400 CCTV cameras were installed in the polling centers to monitor the situation. CEC Kazi Habibul Awal monitored the election from the Election Commission building.
