PM expresses deep sadness on India's Gujarat tragedy

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep sadness to Narendra Modi on the tragic incident of the collapse of the Morbi bridge over the Machchu river in Gujarat during Diwali celebrations, which caused the unfortunate loss of many lives, including women and children.

She wrote: "I, on behalf of the government and on my own behalf, express my deepest condolences to the government and the people of India on this heart-wrenching tragedy,"reports BSS.

"We commend the efforts undertaken by the government of India in the immediate aftermath of the incident, including the quick mobilization of the rescue operation," she added, according to the press wing of the Prime Minister.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for salvation of the departed souls, speedy recovery of the injured persons, as well as for the bereaved families so that they have the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

"At this trying time, we stand in solidarity and support with the government and the people of India," she reiterated.
