Update : 06 Nov 2022, 17:52

The US Embassy has announced a call for applications for the 2023-2024 Global Undergraduate Exchange (UGRAD) Program.  This program provides fully funded scholarships for outstanding Bangladeshi undergraduate students to attend a US college/university for one academic semester.

This international educational exchange program provides participants with an opportunity to experience the US higher education system, learn more about American culture and values, and participate in community service projects, said a press release on Sunday.

Over the last 17 years, 79 Bangladeshi students participated in the program, providing future leaders with an opportunity to enhance their academic knowledge and develop their professional skills.

Prominent Bangladeshi Global UGRAD alumni include Mahmuda Yasmin Kona who studied at Troy University in Alabama during the Fall 2021 semester.  After returning to Bangladesh, Mahmuda completed her studies at her home institution, Bangladesh University of Professionals.  She is passionate about climate issues and was selected to participate in a regional conference bringing together young climate change activists from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka held in September 2022.  Since the conference, she has been conducting research on ecosystem conservation.

Students will be enrolled in full-time, non-degree, undergraduate coursework chosen from their host institution’s existing curriculum for one academic semester.  Participants will be required to take one, three-credit American studies course to enhance their understanding of the United States.

Students will participate in local community service activities to develop their leadership skills.

Students will gain hands-on professional experience completing prestigious internships at renowned US-based organizations, businesses, and companies.

Students will learn about American culture and society in addition to serving as a youth ambassador of Bangladesh through activities, such as cultural exhibitions and performances.

Students will enhance their leadership skills by participating in trainings and workshops focused on self-reflection, goal setting, and other topics aimed at providing them with critical tools to become successful leaders in their professions and communities.
