The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) started its 7th divisional mass rally in Sylhet city on Saturday(November 19).
The rally has started at 11:00 am earlier than the scheduled time at the Government Aleya Madrasa ground in Sylhet.
The party leaders, activists and supporters from Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sylhet thronged the rally venue although transport owners are observing strike.
According to Sylhet Metropolitan Police, 19 check-posts have been installed at the entry points of Sylhet city and hundreds of plainclothes policemen will perform their duties on Saturday to maintain the law and order situation.
Four mobile court teams will also be deployed to check security.
Despite transport strike and other obstacles, the rally venue has been teeming with the opposition leaders and activists since Friday night.
BNP has been holding rallies in the divisional cities demanding the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia, protesting the price hike of essentials and fuel oils, seeking handing over power to a neutral caretaker government.
