Workers of passenger and cargo vessels on the river routes have withdrawn their nationwide strike on Monday (November 28). The strike was started on Saturday midnight to press home their 10-point demands, including their wage hike.
Bangladesh water transport worker's federation president Shah Alam confirmed the matter to the media.
Leaders of the water transport workers called off the strike following a meeting with State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian and representatives of Launch Owners' Association and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) at Shrama Bhaban in the city on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, the water transport workers started their strike for an indefinite period from Saturday midnight to realize their 10-point demands, including their wage hike other service benefits. Following the strike the movement of the transport remained halted.
