There is no pressure on EC from international community or foreign diplomats regarding the national parliament election.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal came up with the assertion while speaking at the smart national identity (NID) cards at Mirjaganj Upzila Parishad Auditorium in Patuakhali on Wednesday (December 21).
CEC said, "There is no pressure on Election Commission (EC) from international community or foreign diplomats regarding the national parliament election. The Election Commission has no comment on the speeches of foreign diplomats."
"No party is being forced to take part in the election. However, we are urging all political parties to join the election race," he added.
Kazi Habibul Awal said, "Hopefully, all political parties including BNP will take part in the election. The election will be more participatory, if they take part in it."
Upazila Election Officer M Golam Mostafa said, "Primarily, the smart NID cards have been provided to 400 voters. We will gradually provide the smart NID cards to all the voters across the country."
Bangladesh Election Commission Secretary M Jahangir Alam presided over the program.
