Ferry movement suspended on the Jamuna and Padma in Manikganj

The ferry movement in between Aricha-kazirhat route in the river Jamuna and Paturia-Daulatdia in the Padma have been remaining suspended from the early hours on Wednesday, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Paturia Ghat officials said.

"Dense fog blanketed the Aricha-Kazirhat river route on the river Jamuna, forcing us to suspend the ferry movements at 2.15 am and Paturia-Daulatdia route on the Padma from 3 am BIWTC Paturia Ghat Deputy General Manager (DGM) Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz said, reports BSS.

Officials said the fog simultaneously forced suspension of movement of other vessels like engine-run country boats and launches both the river routes.

BIWTC, DGM Khaled Newaz said three ferries Shah Ali, Enyetpuri and Kunjalata are waiting at Aricha Ghat with vehicles and passengers and Begum Sufia Kamal and Begum Rokeya are in the middle in the river Jamuna loaded with vehicles and passengers, while six ferries Shah Jalal, Madhabilata, Shahid Barkat, Bir Shreshtha Jahangir, Rojonigandha, and Chandra Mollika are remainig at Paturia Ghat loaded with vehicles and passengers, while Shah Mokdum, Faridpur, Kumilla, Shah Keramat, Bir Shreshtha Motiur, Bonalata, Shah Paran, Hasnahena and Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin are waiting at Daulatdia Ghat.
