At least one Rohingya man was shot dead and two others, including a child sustained critical injuries in firing between two armed groups on January 19.
The shells fell on a refugee settlement near near the no-man’s land at Ghumdhum-Tumbru frontline in Bandarban.
According to Md. Jahangir Aziz, chairman of Ghumdhum Union Council in Bandarban, "A heavy gun battle between Myanmar’s militant groups has been going on since early Wednesday morning. Many local people living near the border have been shifted to safer places."
He added that dozens of Rohingya tents have also been burned down.
The Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) and the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) are reportedly locked in the fighting," said Aziz.
A senior police official in Bandarban said that one man in ‘combat uniform’ was shot dead while scores of others were injured in the fighting on the border and inside Myanmar territory.
Meanwhile, two Rohingya refugees were killed and five others injured after several mortar shells reportedly fired by the Myanmar army fell near the Rohingya camps at the no-man’s land on November 04, 2022.
