TIB: Bangladesh 12th most corrupt country in the world

Update : 01 Feb 2023, 13:11

Bangladesh has ranked as 12th most corrupt country among 180 countries.

Dropping one position from 2021, Bangladesh scored 25 out of 100 this year, TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman said while unveiling ‘Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2022' at a press conference in the organization's Dhanmondi office on Tuesday.

Out of 180 countries, Bangladesh ranked 147th in 2022.

The country ranked 147th in 2021 too, whereas it ranked 146th in the 2020 index.

TIB, a Berlin-based graft watchdog, prepares the CPI report annually on 180 countries and territories around the world by their perceived levels of public sector corruption.

The global average score is 43. More than two-thirds of countries scored below 50, while 26 countries have fallen to their lowest scores yet.

The 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) showed that most countries are failing to stop corruption.

Bangladesh is the fourth-most corrupt among 31 Asia Pacific countries while the second-most in South Asia, according to the index.

Among South Asian countries, India and Maldives jointly scored 40, Sri Lanka 36, Nepal 34, Pakistan 27 and Afghanistan 24.
