26th anniversary of 'Ghulja Massacre' marked

February 05 is observed as the anniversary of 'Ghulja Massacre'. On this day in 1997, Chinese forces allegedly killed and imprisoned many Uyghurs while they were participating in a peaceful demonstration in Ghulja in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) demanding religious and cultural freedom and equal rights.

Various NGO and civil societies, Ulemas and other organizations observed the 26th Anniversary of 'Ghulja Massacre' to support the demand of Uyghur Muslim and other ethnic minorities through various events and programs in different parts of Bangladesh, said a press release.

Bangladesh Sampriti Saangsad (BSS) Welfare Association on Sunday (February 5) organized a bicycle rally and protest meeting in Dhaka. The cycle rally started from Nikunj Police Plaza, went through Gulshan Area and United Hospital and ended at the Police Plaza.

Islamic Progotoshil Janata Front organized a Press Conference at 11.30am at Conference Room-3, Abdus Salam Hall, National Press Club, Dhaka.

Sanchetan Nagarik Samaj organized a Human Chain and protest demonstrations on the occasion of 26th Anniversary of Ghulja Massacre in Gazipur.

Khulna Metropolitan Students Union (KMSU) organized a human chain and a protest rally at Royal intersection in Khulna.     

Bangladesh Social Activist Forum (BSAF) organized a Human chain and protest rally at Shaheb Bazar, Zero Point, Rajshahi to mark the day.

Bangladesh Islamic Front organized a discussion on this occasion at Chittagong Press Club in Chittagong, the release added.
