A local leader of Awami League and also former UP chairman of Sirajganj was allegedly shot to death by miscreants in Bhogolman Charmatha area under Tarash upazila of the district on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Kuddus, 50, resident of Deshigram area of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Tarash Police Station Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter to the media.
UP Chairman of Deshigram union, Gyanendra Nath Basak, said, "A group of unknown miscreants shot Abdul Kuddus at around 7:00 pm in Charmatha area when he was sitting at a shop, leaving him dead on the spot."
Officer-in-Charge of Tarash Police Station Shahidul Islam said, "Abdul Kuddus received bullet injury in his chest. We have visited the spot."
Assistant Police Superintendent Omrito Sutradhar said, "On information, we sent a team to the spot. Necessary steps will be taken after investigation."
