Bangabazar still burning after 6 hours

At least eight people including four firefighters were injured in the massive fire in Dhaka's Bangabazar market.

The injured firefighters are - Md Atiqur Rahman Rajan, 35, and Morbiul Islam Antar, 38.The others are Rabiul Islam Antor, 30,  Niloy, 35, Shahin, 40, Ripon, 40, Rubel, 32, Dulal Mia, 60, Mehedi Hasan, 28. 

They are being treated at the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The four firefighters were injured after a mob attacked the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

A joint support team of the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Air Force and a helicopter are working to control the fire in the capital's Bangabazar.

A total of 50 units of the fire service were working to douse the fire. Gazipur and Narayanganj fire service units also join with the existing fire brigades.

Around 4,000 shops of the market were burnt fully.

The firefighters are taking water from the pond of nearby Shahidullah Hall at Dhaka University.

The fire has also spread to adjacent four shopping markets including Mahanagar Shopping Complex, Adarsha Market, Barisal Plaza and Annexco Tower.

Several fire men fall sick due to huge black smoke.
