The fire in the capital's Bangabazar has come under control after six and a half hours later.
Shahjahan Shikder, officer of the media wing of the fire service confirmed the news. According to him, "the fire was brought under control at 12:36 pm on Tuesday".
There was an early water shortage to bring the raging fire under control. Later, water was collected from Hatirjheel to put out the fire.
At least 50 units of fire servicemen worked to control the fire which broke out at 6:10 am.
The cause of fire and the extent of damages could not be ascertained immediately.
