Germany tightens restrictions on UK travellers

Germany is strengthening travel restrictions from the United Kingdom in an effort to halt the spread of the Omicron form, according to the country's public health authority.

Carriers like as airlines are prohibited from carrying British visitors to Germany. Only German nationals and residents, as well as their partners and children, as well as transit passengers, will be permitted to enter the country from the United Kingdom. The new rules go into force on Monday. Similar limits have previously been imposed in France. Coronavirus infections are on the rise in the United Kingdom.

Regardless of vaccination status, anyone entering Germany from the United Kingdom will need a negative PCR test and will be quarantined for 14 days.

The new guidelines were revealed as the Robert Koch Institute categorized the United Kingdom as a virus variation region of concern, the highest Covid risk level. The limits could persist until at least 3 January, according to the report. 90,418 daily Covid instances were registered across the UK on Saturday.

Due to a dramatic increase of incidents, London Mayor Sadiq Khan declared a "major incident" in the capital on Saturday. On Saturday, there were 26,418 new instances reported, which is the largest number ever.
