Bangladesh commence administering the Covid-19 booster dose to health personnel in the capital Dhaka on a trial basis on Sunday to combat Covid-19.
The booster dose is given in the morning at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) in the city's Mohakhali region.
"Initially, the booster dose will be administered on a low scale as a caution. After observing the effects of the vaccine for a few days, it'll be rolled out for others," told Abu Hossain Md Mainul Ahsan, the Civil Surgeon of Dhaka district, told journalists in a virtual briefing on Saturday.
Furthermore, doctors, nurses, and other health-care personnel will receive the dose, while older folks will receive it in the following phase, taking into account their comorbidities."
The Civil Surgeon stated.
The Cabinet authorized the relevant authorities, primarily the health minister and the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19, to work on a plan on December 13th.
The Prime Minister had already directed the technical group to develop a specific guideline for when the booster dose campaign should begin.
The National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 advised booster doses for residents over 60 and frontline workers on December 12.
The NTAC suggested at a meeting that senior persons and frontline workers who received the two doses of vaccine six months ago receive the booster dose. To contain the spread of Omicron, it was also urged that everyone take precautions to limit public gatherings, meetings, and rallies.
