The train services on the Dhaka-Chattogram-Sylhet routes have resumed after two and a half hours of suspension following a train derailment at Hasanpur station of Nangalkot in Cumilla.

"The train services on the Dhaka-Chattogram-Sylhet routes resumed at around 9:00 pm on Sunday through an alternative line," Laksam Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zasim Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the matter to BSS.

Earlier, the train services on the routes were suspended as seven carriages and a locomotive of Dhaka-bound passenger train Sonar Bangla Express were derailed when it hit a freight train at Hasanpur station of Nangalkot in Cumilla around 6:45 pm, reports BSS.

The accident took place when Sonar Bangla Express entered a loop where the freight train was stationary.

About 60 people, including 12 Election Commission (EC) officials, were injured.

An official of the divisional railway (Chattogram) said a four-member probe body, led by Divisional Transport Officer (Chattogram) Tarique Md Imran, has been formed to investigate the accident.
