Bangladesh ambassador’s residence comes under attack in Sudan

Update : 27 Apr 2023, 11:16

Bangladesh embassy in Sudan came under attack on April 22 during the fight between military and paramilitary forces in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.

The Bangladesh embassy building was attacked by machine gun bullets.

In a separate attack on April 15, bullets from machine guns hit the residence of acting ambassador Tareq Ahmed.

No one was injured or killed in both attacks.

As the situation in Khartoum gets worse, Tareq Ahmed is now residing in Madani city in the Al Jazirah province of east-central Sudan.

Meanwhile, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs announced through a Facebook post yesterday that the government has initiated the process of bringing Bangladeshi citizens residing in Sudan back to Bangladesh safely, with the help of other countries.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Khartoum has already started disseminating this information among the Bangladeshis staying there. However, the safety of their travel depends on the law and order situation, and the embassy's instructions must be followed for registration and other necessary formalities.
