Update : 19 May 2023, 01:21

The country’s first elevated metro rail will operate from 8am to 8pm six days in a week (except Friday) aimed at giving smooth service to commuters from May 31.

“The metro rail will also launch its performance test from July 1 on Agargaon to Motijheel part,” Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) MAN Siddique told BSS.

He said Friday will be the weekly day off, which was Tuesday as per the current schedule.  “As per the new announcement, the metro rail will give service for 12 hours every day except Friday,” he added.

The revised schedule aims to address the needs of commuters more effectively. During the peak hours from 8am to 11am, trains will arrive at metro stations every 10 minutes in both directions, the managing director said, reports BSS.

He said from 11am to 3pm, which is considered the off-peak hour, trains will depart from stations every 15 minutes.

Between 3pm and 6pm is also peak hours, while the period from 6pm to 8pm will be considered off-peak hours.

Currently, the metro rail is operating from 8am to 2pm.

Siddique mentioned that the metro rail currently undergoes maintenance. To accommodate the maintenance works, it requires a complete shutdown for a day and so, the weekly holiday has been shifted to Friday after discussions with commuters.

However, he said the metro rail services will also be suspended during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival.
