State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Sunday expressed his hope to solve the current situation of power within the next 10-15 days.

“The load shedding went up in the recent days due to fuel shortage. The size of power sector has now increased. I know the situation is unbearable,” he briefed the journalists at his ministry, reports BSS.

Nasrul Hamid said the situation may persist for a couple of weeks, adding “We expect this problem will be resolved within the next ten to fifteen days as frantic efforts are underway. I am trying to bring coal for the Payra power plant within the shortest possible time.”

He said temperature has been increased from 38 to 41 degrees Celsius, while the demand for electricity was increased rapidly due to strong heat wave.

“We were ready to supply uninterrupted power with the existing reserve. Though we are not going for scheduled load shedding, there are  load shedding in some areas,” the state minister said.

He said the present electricity shortage is temporary, adding, “There is nothing to be worried about uninterrupted power supply. We are trying to present better position of power before the consumers from this situation in a couple of weeks.”

Nasrul Hamid said around 2,500 MW of power load shedding takes place per day   adding that “Efforts are being made to reduce load shade gradually and the problem will soon be resolved, as everything is under controlled,” he added.

He said power plants were ready for operation after commissioning adequate coal without delay.
