The Election Commission (EC) cancelled the nomination paper of Ashraful Hossain Alam alias Hero Alam for the Dhaka-17 by-elections on Sunday.
The nomination of another Jatiyo Party candidate was also canceled. Another canceled candidate is Mamunur Rashid, a candidate of the Plow symbol by Jatiya Party chairman Roshan Ershad.
A total of 15 people have submitted nomination papers in the by-election of this seat. Among them, the nomination papers of 7 people have been validated. The nomination papers of the remaining 8 have been canceled.
Earlier, Hero Alom collected the nomination paper from the Election Commission (EC) office in Dhaka on 4 June.
The constituency became vacant following the death of Akbar Hossain Pathan, popularly known as Farooq, on 15 May this year.
The Dhaka-17 by-polls will be held on July 17.
