'China will suffer a lot from Omicron'

Update : 29 Dec 2021, 18:44

China's 'Zero Covid' policy will not work against super transmissible mutant variants. A South African scientist has given such information to the world about Omicron.

Tulio de Oliveria, head of South Africa's Center for Epidemiological Response and Innovation (CERI) said, China's latest sanctions to fight Omicron would not work in the country.

In a tweet, Oliveria said, the Omicron and Zero Covid policy would be a huge problem for China. China may be associated with other countries in the world with mitigation strategies. It should not punish it’s public health officials, the public and foreigners for a more contagious type.

Authorities in China have locked down about 13 million people in Xi'an after 52 new cases of corona were identified in the Xi'an region.

China's health commission said on 27th December (Monday) that 182 new cases had been identified in Corona on Sunday. From them, 152 were in Shanxi, 7 in Guangxi and 1 each in Zhejiang and Guangdong.
