Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today asked Payra and Chattogram maritime ports to hoist danger signal seven as severe cyclonic storm Hamoon may cross Barishal-Chattogram coast near Bhola by tomorrow morning to noon as a cyclonic storm.
The met office also asked Cox's Bazar and Mongla to hoist signal six and five respectively after lowering local warning signal number four.
The latest weather bulletin 10 said maximum sustained wind speed within 64 kilometers (KMS) of the storm centre is about 90 kilometers per hour (KPH) rising to 110 KPH in gusts or squalls while sea will remain high near the severe cyclone center.
It said the coastal districts of Barishal, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barguna, Pirozpur, Jhalakathi, Chattogram, Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Bhola and other offshore islands and chars will come under danger signal number seven.
Under the peripheral effect of the severe cyclonic storm, heavy (44-88mm) to very heavy (up to 89 or above) rainfall with gusty or squally wind may continue over North Bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
Under the peripheral effect of the severe cyclone and steep pressure gradient, the low lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirozpur, Jhalakathi, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and other offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by wind driven surge of 3-5 feet above normal astronomical tide.
Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are likely to be experienced of heavy rainfall (up to 89mm or above) due to the cyclone
Due to very heavy rainfall, landslide may occur at different places in the hilly regions of Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Chattogram.
The bulletin said the severe cyclonic storm "Hamoon" over northwest bay and adjoining area moved northwestwards over the same area and was centered at 9am today 310 southwest of Payra port, 325kms southwest of Mongla port, 410 kms west-southwest of Cox's Bazar port and 445 kilometers west-southwest of Chattogram port and it is likely to move north northwestwards.
