Voting ends peacefully, counting begins

Vote counting began after the end of polling in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad elections at 4pm in a peaceful and festive manner at 42,024 voting centres in 299 constituencies across the country.

Voting began at 8am and it continued till 4pm without any break. Since the morning, voters stood in queue to exercise their franchise in festive manner across the country.

Awami League (AL) President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina cast her vote at Dhaka City College here at 8:04am. Later, her daughter Saima Wazed voted at the same centre.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal voted at Habibullah Bahar University College center here this morning and hoped voting would be held in a peaceful manner countrywide.

"Every five years, national election comes. We complete the election process with coordinated efforts of all," he told newsmen after exercising his franchise at around 8:30 am.
