Turnout around 40 percent: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal said around 40 percent votes were cast in the 12th parliamentary election. He said this while briefing journalists at the EC building in Dhaka around 5:30pm.

Kazi Habibul Awal said reporters, across the country around 40 percent votes were cast. So far this the reliable information. But later it could be changed. 

Earlier Election Commission officials said the country today witnessed turnout of 27.15 percent voters in seven hours since the starting of the nationwide voting at 8 am, 

"Some 27.15 percent votes were casted in seven hours after the polling began in the morning," Election Commission Secretary Mohammad Jahangir Alam told reporters at a press conference held at the Election Commission's media centre today.

The polls closed at 4:00pm.
