A ferry named Rajanigandha capsized in the middle of the Padma river in Manikganj's Paturia early this morning amid heavy fog.
Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation's (BIWTC's) Aricha regional office Shah Md Khaled Newaz told that the ferry, Rajanigandha, capsized with seven vehicles on board near terminal number-5 around 8:15am. The ferry was carrying pick-up trucks and covered vans.
Duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters control room said, on information, divers from the local fire service rushed to the spot and managed to rescue six people by 8:30am.
The reason behind the ferry capsize could not be known immediately. The exact number of passengers on the ferry is yet to be known. Rescue operations are currently ongoing.
