Today is the historic 10th of January. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s Homecoming Day. 50 years ago, today Bangabandhu became free from captivity in Pakistan and returned to his motherland. The people of Bangladesh became victorious on 16th of December, 1971. But they experienced the real taste of it on 10th of January, 1972 with the Homecoming of the Father of the Nation. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman himself marks his Homecoming as a journey from darkness towards light.
On 25th of March, 1971 Pakistani aggressors had arrested Bangabandhu from his Dhanmondi residence. He was captivated in Pakistan. The Pakistan Military declared death penalty against him. They even dug a grave for him. Later on, Pakistan was forced to free Bangabandhu because of the external pressure from the renowned world leaders. Bangladesh as a country must be very grateful to India and Russia, because these two countries played an important role behind Bangladesh's victory. Bangabandhu shed tears of joy after coming back to his motherland.
In his speech (10th of January, 1972) at Sohrawardi Uddan, he said, ‘I will repay the debt of love of the people of Bangladesh no matter how.’ Even after all these years, the people love Bangabandhu unconditionally. Many people tried to erase the name of Bangabandhu from the history of Bangladesh and failed. Bangabandhu’s Homecoming integrated and protected the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. On his Homecoming day, we remember Bangabandhu with great respect and love in our hearts and pray for the forgiveness of his departed soul.
