Lockdown brings losses for country, people: Health Minister

According to Health Minister Zahid Maleque, a lockdown will not be necessary if people follow the 11 recommendations released lately to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

The minister remarked during an event at Manikganj Sadar Hospital on Saturday that lockdowns put a great strain on a country's economy.

"Covid-19 instances have been on the rise all across the world, and Bangladesh is no different," he said.

He said that the government had enough Covid-19 vaccine doses on hand, and that over 140 million vaccinations have already been given out.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said if another lockdown is imposed, people and the country will face losses again.

The minister was talking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration function of a CT scan and Dialysis unit at Manikganj General Hospital on Saturday morning.

"We urge all the people of this country to abide by the recently issued 11-point Covid-19 guidelines," he said.   

"If these instructions are followed, there will be no need for a lockdown in the country ", he continued.
