Dr Yunus’s bail extended in labour law violation case

Today a Dhaka court has extended the bail period of four people, including Dr Muhammad Yunus, in the labour law violation case.

In a written order on Monday, the court fixed April 16 for the next hearing in the case. Earlier, Dr Yunus, along with three other top officials of Grameen Telecom, applied for bail after appearing in the Labour Appellate Tribunal as the bail period expired in this case on March 3.
 
On Jan 28, four people, including Dr Yunus, who had been sentenced to six months’ jail, secured bail.
 
On January 1, the labour court sentenced Grameen Telecom Chairman and Nobel Laureate Dr Yunus and three others for violating labour law.
 
The court fined them Tk 30,000 each or remain behind bars for 25 days in default under two sections of the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006.
