The seventh phase election to 138 Union Parishads in 24 upazilas of 20 districts are underway. Voting began at 8am in 1,350 polling stations and will continue till 4pm.
Electronic voting machines use in nine of the 138 unions while paper ballots will be used in the rest ones, according to the Election Commission.
The Election Commission also said that it had completed all the preparations for holding the last phase of the polls in 138 unions, while elections have been held to 3,199 UPs in the past six phases.
Law enforcers have been deployed in the unions to ensure security and avoid unwanted incidents.
Elections to chairman posts of 11 UPs will not be needed as the candidates already won unopposed. Forty-seven UP members and 13 candidates for women's reserved seats were also elected unopposed.
At least 576 candidates are running for chairman posts, 1,236 for reserved member seats for women and 4,062 for member posts.
