The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge, the country's largest, will see its first trial train run today.
However, ahead of this, two trains were run on broad gauge tracks from both ends of the bridge on Monday afternoon to ensure the readiness of the experimental operation. Videos of the two trains crossing from either end of the bridge have been circulating on social media.
The experimental train operation on Monday afternoon was confirmed by Al Fattah Masudur Rahman, the project director of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge.
He stated that today’s experimental train run will take place on the 4.8-kilometer-long bridge. However, regular train operations over the bridge are expected to begin in December, with commercial services anticipated to start in January.
He further added that the bridge’s construction has been fully completed, and its formal inauguration is scheduled for December. For the trial, trains will be operated around noon today, Tuesday.
