Update : 27 Nov 2024, 15:43

A lawyer has filed a petition in the High Court (HC) seeking a ban on the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and requesting the imposition of an emergency in Chattogram and Rangpur to prevent any untoward incidents.

On Wednesday, citing media reports, lawyer Moniruzzaman sought directives from an HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury.

Given the sensitive nature of the matter, the court summoned the Attorney General, the state's chief legal officer.

Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman stated that certain elements might be attempting to destabilize the country from different angles. He added that the government is addressing the situation by fostering national unity and has initiated discussions with political parties regarding recent concerns.

The HC expressed its concern, emphasizing the need to maintain law and order. It directed the government to report on its measures regarding ISKCON and related issues by tomorrow.
