The government has taken the initiative to sell subsidized products from the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to an additional 1 million garment worker families, beyond the existing Family Card holders.
On Wednesday, Economic Affairs Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed shared this information with reporters after a meeting of the Economic Advisory Council Committee at the Secretariat.
He stated that the committee has given policy approval for selling TCB products to garment worker families.
"One million garment workers will receive TCB products at subsidized rates. While we are initially focusing on the garment sector, other sectors will also be considered in the future," he added.
According to relevant sources, based on a directive from the Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment and a decision from the Ministry of Commerce, subsidized TCB products will be distributed to garment workers in industrial zones near Dhaka, including Tongi, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Ashulia, and Savar.
