Winter has started to grip the country, with a mild cold wave sweeping over Panchagarh, Rajshahi, and Chuadanga districts. The lowest temperature of the season, 8 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Panchagarh.
The Meteorological Department predicts that the cold wave may intensify and spread further by next week, with temperatures potentially dropping to 3 degrees Celsius in January.
Dr. Md. Bazlur Rashid, a meteorologist, stated that while Dhaka might not experience a cold wave, temperatures could fall close to 10 degrees Celsius. He also noted that, similar to last year, dense fog is likely, and the cold may be more intense this winter, with temperatures possibly decreasing by 3-4 degrees in January.
The weather forecast for the next 72 hours, starting Friday evening (December 13), indicated that the low-pressure area near Sri Lanka's coast in the southwest Bay of Bengal has weakened and is now insignificant.
The season's normal low pressure is situated in the south Bay of Bengal, with its extension reaching the north Bay. Additionally, the subcontinental high-pressure zone extends to the west Bay of Bengal and nearby areas.
Under these conditions, the country's weather is expected to remain dry, with temporarily partly cloudy skies. The mild cold wave affecting Panchagarh, Rajshahi, and Chuadanga districts is likely to persist.
Night and day temperatures may drop slightly across the country, intensifying the feeling of cold. Moreover, moderate to dense fog could form in some areas from midnight to morning.
