'Summer load shedding depends on heat, power generation'

The extent of load shedding in the coming summer will depend on the level of heat and electricity generation, said Muhammad Faujul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.

He made these remarks on Saturday while visiting the Abidarpara area in South Agrabad, Chattogram.

Faujul Kabir Khan stated that the government is working on increasing LNG imports, repairing transformers, and improving electricity supply. A balance will be maintained between urban and rural areas in electricity distribution.

Emphasizing the need to prevent electricity misuse, he further said that illegal connections must be eliminated. Air conditioners should be set at 25 degrees Celsius or higher, as this would help conserve electricity.

The Power Adviser mentioned that all possible efforts are being made to address waterlogging. Although the problem may not be entirely resolved by the upcoming monsoon, significant improvements will be made. However, a complete solution will take more time.

He also stated that allegations of irregularities and corruption in Chattogram’s waterlogging prevention project will be investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). "Our responsibility is to assist the City Corporation, CDA, and other relevant agencies in resolving the waterlogging issue," he added.

Urging people not to dump plastic and polythene in drains, canals, and sewers, Faujul Kabir Khan said, "Excavating canals alone will not be enough. We must also ensure that canal water does not become polluted. Public awareness needs to be raised, and community participation must be encouraged."
