Within just a day of announcing a price reduction, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has decided to raise prices again. Under the new rates, the price of high-quality gold has climbed back to Tk 262,000 per bhori.
Less than 24 hours after announcing a price cut on Friday (February 6), BAJUS declared an increase of up to Tk 7,640 per bhori. The new prices were announced in a notice at 10 a.m. on Saturday (February 7), stating that the revised rates would take effect immediately.
BAJUS said the adjustment was made due to an increase in the price of pure (acid-tested) gold in the local market.
According to the new rates, the price of 22-carat gold, the highest quality, is Tk 262,090 per bhori. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 250,193 per bhori.
Additionally, 18-carat gold now costs Tk 214,443 per bhori, while gold made under the traditional method is priced at Tk 175,485 per bhori.
Despite the rise in gold prices, silver prices remain unchanged. A bhori of 22-carat silver costs Tk 6,357. The price for 21-carat silver is Tk 6,065 per bhori, 18-carat silver Tk 5,190, and traditional silver Tk 3,907 per bhori.
Meanwhile, gold prices are also rising in the global market. Internationally, the price of gold has increased to $4,966 per ounce, up from $4,850 the previous day.
Earlier, on January 30, gold was priced at $5,200 per ounce, and on January 29, it rose to $5,550.
Toward the end of last month, rapid increases in global prices pushed domestic gold prices to record levels. On January 29, the price surged by Tk 16,213 per bhori in a single adjustment, raising the price of high-quality gold to Tk 286,000 per bhori—the highest in the country’s history. There has never been such a sharp one-time increase before.
