Rahul Gandhi comes in support of hijab-wearing students, says country robbing future of daughters

Reacting to Hijab row in educational institutes, Indian politician and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the nation is robbing the future of the girl students by letting the issue come in way of their education.

“By letting students’ hijab come in the way of their education, we are robbing the future of the daughters of India. Ma Saraswati gives knowledge to all. She doesn’t differentiate," on the occasion of Vasant Panchami, Rahul Gandhi tweeted on Saturday.

Other leaders, in addition to Rahul Gandhi, have commented to the incident. "This is the idea to keep female pupils out of school. The goal is to deny education to female childre," said  Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly and Congress leader Siddaramaiah.

The hijab row in Karnataka has turned into a big controversy with many colleges denying entry to students wearing hijabs.

The petitions that were filed by students of the Government Pre-University College for Girls, Udupi, demanding permission to attend classes while wearing ‘hijab’ will be heard by the Karnataka high court on February 8.
