Update : 31 Mar 2025, 00:22

To celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their families, nearly 41 lakh people have left Dhaka in the past two days, according to mobile SIM mobility data from telecom operators.

An analysis of data from mobile operators reveals that 40,94,621 people departed from the capital on March 28 and 29. On March 28, 18,99,537 people left Dhaka, while the number increased to 21,95,084 on March 29.

Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival for Muslims, is expected to be celebrated on March 31 (Monday) or April 1 (Tuesday), depending on moon sighting. However, the government has pre-declared March 31 as Eid day for holiday scheduling.

The official five-day holiday began on March 29 (Saturday) and will continue until April 2 (Tuesday). Initially, April 3 (Thursday) was a working day, but the government later announced it as a public holiday through an executive order.

Following this, there is also the weekend break on April 4 and 5 (Friday and Saturday). This means government employees will enjoy a continuous nine-day holiday.
